Northallerton and Romanby
Northallerton, the county town, has period houses close to the broad High Street and plenty of family homes further out. Romanby, on the south-west side, has well-kept detached and semi-detached homes with good gardens.
Villages to the north and east
Brompton has a lovely village green and a mix of cottages and larger houses. Osmotherley, on the edge of the North York Moors, has stone cottages, larger homes and steeper gardens, with a conservation area at its heart. Appleton Wiske, Great Smeaton and East Cowton lie to the north.
Villages to the south and west
Thornton-le-Beans, Thornton-le-Moor, Ainderby Steeple, Morton-on-Swale and Leeming Bar have village houses, farmhouses and barn conversions, many with large gardens and open views.
